New electricity pylons added to Ordnance Survey maps

When the National Grid announced that the first new electricity pylon design in 90 years was going to be erected in Nottinghamshire, the OS surveying team swung into action. Pylons not only feature in the large scale products, such as OS MasterMap for the OS business and government customers, but also in smaller scale products, like the 1:25,000 scale mapping in the OS Explorer maps used for outdoor activities. In OS MasterMap Topography Layer, pylons are recorded as individual data features used by businesses to help make planning decisions, look at the impact of future buildings and much more. Currently pylons are shown as a standard square symbol or to scale if larger. www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk
