Organizers of the conference were Bulgarian Cartographic Association, International Cartographic Association and University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy Sofia and co-organizers - Military Geographic Service, Bulgaria and Bulgarian Red Cross. The event was supported by the Bulgarian Science Fund. In 2018, the Black Sea town of Sozopol hosted the conference from 18 to 23 June.
Two-day Seminar with EU Cooperation on Early Warning and Disaster / Crisis Management was organized by Prof. Milan Konecny, Chair of Commission on Cartography on Early Warning and Crisis Management and ICA President (former). The seminar was conducted under the auspices of the Czech ambassador to Bulgaria His Excellency Mr. Dušan Štrauch. Co-organizer of the event was Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic.
The sponsors of the event were: ASSECO (platinum sponsor), ESRI (gold sponsor), DataMap-Europe, KartGeo, Geopan. GIS Professional, GeoConnexion, Coordinates, Remote Sensing Journal, ISPRS International Journal for Geo-Information and Bulgarian Geomedia were media partners.
The main international organizer was ICA with the support of the ICA Secretary General Prof. Laszlo Zentai, the Vice-President of ICA Prof. Lynn Usery, the Past-President of ICA Prof. Georg Gartner, chairs of ICA commissions – Prof. Milan Konecny and Prof. Miljenko Lapaine, vice-chairs of ICA commissions – Prof. José Jesús Reyes Nunez and Prof. Jiping Liu. This cooperation provoked intense interest among 200 attendees from more than 30 countries.
ICC&GIS scientific jury awarded prof. Ivica Milevski from FYRo Macedonia for Best Paper. The jury also awarded two young scientists - Matjaž Štanfel, a PhD student in Croatia and Paulina Raeva – a PhD student in Czech Republic.
