Teledyne Geospatial unveils super resolution airborne lidar with edge computing

By Eric Van Rees - 12th July 2024 - 05:21

Teledyne Geospatial announces Galaxy Edge, the newest generation of its award-winning Galaxy airborne lidar solution.

Galaxy Edge delivers high-resolution data with the most efficient acquisition in steep terrain, resulting in lower carbon footprint and a 20-50% reduction in collection costs. The new Teledyne solution responds to market needs for uniform point density by accelerating the scan speed and delivering straight and parallel scan lines. It also optimizes for wire detection and reduces atmospheric noise and processing labor. Galaxy Edge is compatible with fixed wing, pressurized aircraft, drone or helicopter platforms. Real-time processing powered by Galaxy Onboard delivers lidar point clouds for immediate use upon landing.

Features and Benefits:

  • Parallel Scan Lines: Uniform point spacing across the swath streamlines and cost-optimizes flight planning.
  • Additional Scan Lines: Delivers more scanlines on the ground, with higher resolution of smaller objects like electric wires, poles, and street signs.
  • Optimized Detection: Cuts atmospheric noise, providing cleaner data faster.
  • Turbulence & Terrain Compensation: Automatically compensates for airplane deviations and terrain changes. Reduces operational costs through ~50% reduction in flight lines and re-flight.
  • Direct from Plane to Production: Galaxy Onboard processes and quality controls point cloud data in-air and delivers point clouds with <10 cm relative and <15 cm absolute accuracy on landing.
