Synspective is Selected for METI's Global South Co-Creation Subsidy

By Eric Van Rees - 4th February 2025 - 19:42

Synspective, a provider of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite data and analytics solutions, announced that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has selected our “Republic of South Africa / Demonstration project for effective monitoring of mining operations using SAR satellites” project for the “Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Subsidy.”

Through this project, Synspective will test a SAR satellite data solution with Yokogawa Electric Corporation, Insight Terra, and SRK Consulting that can effectively observe signs of ground displacement caused by mining development at mining facilities in Latin America and Africa. The service will be refined using local ground-based data and feedback from mining companies to optimize operations and expand its deployment to regions and industries with active mining activities.

Innovative monitoring solutions, such as SAR satellites, can address some of mining operations’ inherent risks and challenges. SAR satellites can detect wide-area surface displacement at the millimeter level without requiring onsite equipment. This capability enables the effective detection of early signs of damage, such as collapses caused by mining activities. In this project, Syspective will collaborate with several mining companies to demonstrate an effective monitoring method for SAR satellites targeting mining facilities and expand the services to regions including Central America, South America, and Africa. The company aims to provide the world’s most frequent mine monitoring service by leveraging the time-series InSAR*2 analysis technology of Synspective’s StriX SAR satellites.
