ARLINGTON, Va. — RIEGL has been named as a finalist in the XCELLENCE in Innovation category of the XCELLENCE Awards by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International (AUVSI). RIEGL was selected from a pool of accomplished applicants as one of several finalists. Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at AUVSI XPONENTIAL on Tuesday, Apr. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. CDT at McCormick Place in Chicago.
RIEGL was nominated for their NEW RIEGL VUX- 240, a compact airborne laser scanner especially designed for use on UAS/UAV/RPAS, as well as small manned airplanes or helicopters. With its wide field of view of 75° and an extremely fast data acquisition rate of up to 1.8 MHz (1.5 MHz effective), this sensor is perfectly suited for high point density corridor mapping applications. The VUX- 240 is extremely well suited for BVLOS operation, due to features like 1 terabyte of internal storage and its lightweight design. Target markets and typical applications for the sensor include corridor mapping (power line, railway track, and pipeline inspection), topography in open- cast mining, surveying of urban environments, archaeology and cultural
heritage documentation, and agriculture & forestry.
“The rapid growth of the unmanned systems industry is reshaping our future by expanding business markets, providing consumers with innovative solutions and even saving lives,” said Brian Wynne, president and CEO of AUVSI. “The XCELLENCE awards recognize companies and individuals who are achieving remarkable results with unmanned systems technology to benefit our communities.”
XPONENTIAL offers a broad-based and balanced educational program brimming with cutting-edge content and inspirational insights, ranging from policy implications and technical challenges to use cases and best practices across vertical markets and everything in between. The AUVSI XCELLENCE Awards honor innovators in the unmanned systems industry, including individuals and organizations, with a demonstrated commitment to advancing technology, leading and promoting safe operations, and developing programs that use unmanned systems to improve the human condition.
“We are so pleased to be among the finalists for this award. It’s an honor for RIEGL to once again be recognized for our Technology Innovation,” states My-Linh Truong, ULS / UAS Segment Manager at RIEGL USA. “More and more, our customers are searching for ways to increase their ROI. The sUAS and manned aerial LiDAR capture capabilities of the VUX-240 meets that demand. In addition, with the increase in BVLOS development, the capabilities of the new VUX-240 is perfectly suited for LiDAR operations once the regulations have been established.”
