He says, “The necessity for advanced lightweight strategies is a problem faced by every vehicle manufacturer, but it is energy independent electric vehicles (EIEV) that have embraced the most forward-thinking solutions like no other. EIEV continually push the boundaries for ultra-lightweight materials and the use of next-generation manufacturing processes for lightweight designs. Looking even further ahead, to ultimately maximise this weight saving potential it is essential that we progress away from purely “dumb” structural materials and provide them with additional functional purposes. This is part of a growing trend towards structural electronics. I will highlight these new materials, design strategies, and nascent structural electronic technologies for their role in EIEV and beyond”.
Hear Dr Collins present at the event in Delft, Netherlands (27-28 September) alongside speakers from Toyota, Sono Motors, Nuon Solar Team and more. This event is the first one exclusively on energy independent vehicles and will embrace the commercial opportunity and technology roadmap. Find out more at www.IDTechEx.com/delft17.
