New UK Smart Cities Information Hub

By [email protected] - 15th May 2017 - 15:48

On 25 May the Environmental Industries Commission will be launching a cross-sector free to access platform, bringing together all those using smart technologies or big data to create cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city environments.

Sustainable Smart Cities will assist in the promotion of accelerated industry growth through the following activities:

  • Providing a platform for sharing international case studies and best practice – helping both industry and city leaders learn more quickly what works (and what doesn’t) to underpin investment decision making.
  • Connecting people and encouraging collaboration – through a series of networking events, roundtables and seminars; and operating as the nexus between technology, cities, policy makers and academia.
  • Providing thought leadership, market intelligence and investment insight – through in-depth policy reports, briefings and blogposts by leading industry stakeholders.
  • Lobbying governments and policy makers for a regulatory framework which supports and encourages innovation and its implementation.

While there will be a press packet available, we would be honoured for you to join us at the launch event occurring at 18:00 on Thursday 25 May 2017 at the offices of AECOM. With an attendee list composed of both government and industry leaders, as well as Smart City leaders engages in the project itself, we would be happy to arrange for you to interview key individuals.

Background on EIC’s Smart Cities platform:

For 2.5 years the Environmental Industries Commission has been working to better understand smart technologies to aid cities in tackling their core environmental and sustainability challenges: air quality, waste management, carbon/energy use, water management and so on.

In November 2014, EIC published the report ‘Getting the green light: will smart technology clean up city environments?’, for which one of the key recommendations was the need for a central industry repository to be created to promote case studies, share best practice, and help better match cities with environmental challenges with practical, deliverable solutions.

As a result of this, EIC be launching a new free-to-access online platform. This will bring together all those using smart technologies or big data to create cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city environments.
