Indianapolis, IN – The National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) conducted its annual election here last week. Bert Granberg, director of the Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center, was named as NSGIC’s board president and Andy Rowan, deputy chief technology officer of the New Jersey Office of Information Technology, was elected to the position of president-elect.
Additionally, the NSGIC membership re-elected Cheryl Benjamin, manager of the New York State Street and Address Maintenance Program in the Office of Information Technology Services, as a board director. Tony Spicci, longtime conference committee chair, former NSGIC president and GIS supervisor for Missouri, and Nathan Watermeier, state GIS coordinator for the Nebraska Information Technology Commission GIS Council, previously serving as secretary of the board, were both elected to board director positions.
Chris Diller, GIS manager for the State of Wisconsin, moved from the position of president to his new role as immediate past president. Shelby Johnson, geographic information officer for the state of Arkansas, retired from the board after serving out all three executive terms as president-elect, president and immediate past president.
Susan Miller, geospatial information officer for Georgia, was appointed by Granberg to the position of board secretary. Dan Ross, Minnesota’s geospatial information officer, will continue in his role as treasurer. Richard Butgereit, chief information officer for the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Joe Sewash, enterprise GIS architect for the North Carolina Center for Geographic Information an Analysis, and Jeff Smith, spatial data infrastructure manager for Ohio, continue on the board as they serve their 2015-2017 terms.
“The combined energy and expertise of the NSGIC board, committee chairs, corporate sponsors and membership is almost overwhelming right now,” said Granberg. “Our conference last week was filled with great, actionable ideas and opportunities. I am really excited to see where we go together in the year ahead.”
