Paul Speirs, Managing Director PTV UK, points out, in the era of the digital revolution new mobility models, such as the concept of shared mobility and autonomous vehicles are getting popular and increasingly becoming accepted. “As the world is about to make the next big step in technology, we are sure that this transition in mobility patterns has the potential to bring many benefits: Less traffic, reduced congestion, lower emissions, creation of public space, decreases in traffic fatalities, among others. It also has the potential to completely change the travel patterns and travel behaviours we have today, the impact of which can be quite far ranging. And this is where we come in. Planning and operating the evolving modes of transport, their interconnectivity and a person's or a logistic package's total journey plan in offline and in real-time is the PTV Group’s core business,” says Paul Speirs.
PTV Group’s expertise in modelling and understanding the future is unmatched: just 3 months ago, the company was awarded the contract to supply their modelling software PTV Visum and associated professional services to the EU Commission, for a project that will help keep European transport networks moving. The task is to develop TRIMODE, a comprehensive multimodal transport model that covers in detail all freight and passenger transport movements across Europe, together with the economic structures that generate this transport demand and the energy and environmental impacts that it creates. TRIMODE is intended to become a robust, fully operational and integrated modelling system with PTV Visum as its pivotal element.
