Over the last few years, Indoor Positioning and Navigation services have attracted great interest from various industries such as Retail, Transport, Healthcare, Events, etc. Big players like Google and Apple have also recognized the huge potential this technology field bears and started investing in the development of their own Indoor Navigation solution.
Despite the great opportunities and innovative use cases this technology brings, it does have its drawbacks as well. Setting up an Indoor Positioning framework inside a building usually requires a lot of dedicated manual work on site. This takes up a lot of time and money and often results in projects being called off.
The Austrian startup company indoo.rs has found a way to avoid this problem. By automating the majority of the setup process through the SLAM Engine™ (launched by indoo.rs in early 2016) the process could be speeded up 10-fold and accuracy improved upon. Several customers and industry experts have already approved of it:
“Out of all evaluated solutions, indoo.rs clearly offers the most precise Indoor Positioning and Navigation based on iBeacon technology. By means of their latest technology accomplishment, SLAM, they manage a quantum leap in the quality of Indoor Navigation technology, allowing for an extraordinarily fast and efficient setup of the whole system.” - Thomas Hinterleitner, Founder and Managing Director of LOC-Place
The SLAM Engine™ is the first of three stages to complete what indoo.rs calls the “SLAM Revolution”. The second stage, SLAM Crowd Engine™ will follow later in 2016, allowing for automated maintenance of the building’s radio map by leveraging data from phones navigating inside the building. As a final step, SLAM Crowd Learning™ (planned for 2017), will allow for fully automated, global Indoor Positioning system setups over night.
This development will likely shake up the whole industry, as it is the first technology to enable a fully automated Indoor Navigation and Positioning setup, which paves the way for completely new possibilities.
The SLAM (R)Evolution can be followed on indoo.rs’ new micro website slaminfo.indoo.rs, solely dedicated to SLAM, where you can find detailed information and updates on the technology innovation.
If you are intrigued and would like to see how SLAM works for yourself, you can do so by visiting indoo.rs on their SLAM Roadshow. The company will be touring through the US and Europe, attending several of the industry’s must-go-to events starting this autumn.
