GeoSeer Releases Licensed Database of Spatial Web Services

By Eric Van Rees - 28th November 2019 - 12:40

GeoSeer unveiled a licensed version of the database that sits behind their search engine. The licensed content allows organisations and businesses to integrate GeoSeer's industry leading database of spatial web services directly into their own applications, products, or services. This can improve end-user workflows, make discovery of third-party data and services much easier, and help organisations realise some of vast economic benefits Open Data presents - estimated at €75 billion across the EU in 2020 alone.

GeoSeer is a search engine for spatial web services, with over 1.9 million datasets from more 210,000 public web services hosted across 92 countries. Services covered by GeoSeer include Web Map Services (WMS), Web Feature Services (WFS), Web Coverage Services (WCS), and Web Map Tile Services (WMTS).

GeoSeer has provided a free - including ad-free - web-search since early 2018, making spatial web services more discoverable and accessible to the public. In April 2019 GeoSeer released a public API for search, allowing customers to directly harness the power of the GeoSeer Search in their organisation's own webGIS'.

GeoSeer Licensed complements the GeoSeer API by providing an in-house option for organisations seeking to build on the GeoSeer database. The two GeoSeer Licensed products provide a database of current, extracted, pre-cleaned, and pre-processed service and dataset metadata in a single convenient, regularly updated package.

GeoSeer Services is a database with all of the current services in it, as well as information about their endpoints, hosts, and INSPIRE compliance.

GeoSeer Datasets builds on GeoSeer Services, including not only all of the service information, but all of the dataset metadata as well, including bounding boxes, keywords, and location information that pertains to each dataset.

GeoSeer Licensed products are available with a number of different license types to suit all needs, with a research license for those looking to investigate a specific academic project, through to commercial licenses that allow distribution and use in a product.
