Airbus Group SE and Local Motors Inc. will announce during a ceremony held at the Farnborough International Airshow the winners of the “Airbus Cargo Drone Challenge”, a co-creation competition for the next generation of commercial drones, which both companies launched in April.
Entries were received from all over the world including the USA, Europe, Russia, and Asia.
The five winners will share an overall prize pool of well over US $100,000.
Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders, Airbus Defence and Space CEO Dirk Hoke, and Head of Unmanned Aerial Systems Jana Rosenmann will announce the winners and brief media and guests on the aims and progress of the co-creation project.
This new approach to design a commercial drone that integrates innovative ideas from a large community permits Airbus to experience new ways to develop products more quickly. It also enables future customer’s specific expectations and requirements to be considered from the first design phases onwards. Speed is essential in the development of commercial drones to match this growing market and the Airbus teams were able to draw important lessons learnt from this co-creation process.
