With the successful launch of Maxar Intelligence’s second set of WorldView Legion satellites, European Space Imaging (EUSI) will soon offer up to eight daily collection opportunities in key latitudes across Europe and North Africa – a number that will increase after the final WorldView Legion satellites are launched and all six satellites are operational.
Maxar Intelligence has confirmed that the third and fourth WorldView Legion satellites are operating as expected and the commissioning process will begin soon.
These two new WorldView Legion satellites will be in mid-inclination orbit, allowing for multiple collection opportunities throughout the day between dawn and dusk, which is new for the Maxar constellation.
“European satellite imagery users have expressed the growing desire for daily, multiple imaging opportunities with 30 cm GSD to support their missions,” says Pascal Schichor, VP of Sales at European Space Imaging. “Increased revisits of 30 cm-class GSD imagery will enable more accurate digital twins, persistent asset monitoring and accelerated decision making for rapidly evolving ground situations. We are thrilled that Maxar has successfully responded to these market demands, enabling EUSI to deliver an even greater value to the European Earth observation community.”
The Maxar constellation now has eight high-resolution satellites, including four WorldView Legions. The constellation offers unparalleled capacity for 30 cm-class and 8 multispectral band imagery and will soon have up to 15 daily collection opportunities. Through their ground station at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) near Munich, Germany, EUSI directly tasks and downlinks to the entire constellation to offer superior collection planning and near real-time delivery as fast as 15 minutes to end users around Europe and North Africa.
