The appointment was made, by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, the Rt Hon David Lidington CBE MP, in consultation with the Chair of the Commission.
Edwina is one of four new independent commissioners including Dame Kate Barker, Kru Desai and Steve Unger joining the Board, alongside its Chair, Sir Andrew Dilnot, and Deputy Chair, Nigel Clifford.
Edwina has always had a passion for this sector. She joined CACI as a geography graduate, working on location planning, where she became the company’s youngest ever vice-president. She went on to co-found dunnhumby with her partner, Clive Humby.
Chair of the Geospatial Commission, Sir Andrew Dilnot, said: “I am delighted to welcome Kate, Kru, Edwina and Steve to the Geospatial Commission. Their combined expertise and experience will be invaluable to the Commission’s goal to unlock the potential of geospatial data and improve the UK’s social, natural and economic environment.”
Speaking about her appointment Edwina said: “The UK has a wealth of geospatial data with enormous economic value and I am delighted to work alongside the Commission’s exceptional team to provide insight and help to maximise the growth of the UK’s digital economy.”
The Commissioners will be responsible for providing expert, impartial advice to the government on geospatial data, including on strategic priorities and value for money, to inform the UK’s geospatial strategy.
