Dr Anne Kemp named in Queen’s Birthday Honours Awards

Anne, who has been chair of the UK BIM Alliance since its inception has been recognised for the role she has played in helping the UK understand how the construction and infrastructure sectors could use a digital approach to better design, build, operate, and integrate the built environment.

Anne said: “I’m so thrilled to receive this award and grateful to be working during a time when it’s widely accepted that we need a golden thread of information to help us create and run a built environment that supports a better quality of living for all of us.”

She has taken the industry by the scruff of its neck and given it a good shake. Her work not only as chair of the Alliance but in bringing the construction and infrastructure industry together and pushing the drive to digital transformation makes her a credit to her profession. She absolutely deserves this award and I, along with my colleagues are so very proud of Anne, congratulations!”

Anne is a Fellow and Technical Director at Atkins. Anne has been with Atkins for 25 years, where she first introduced GIS to the business, and has acted as advisor to a wide range of projects, ranging from contaminated land to large data management projects

Anne is Chair of buildingSMART UKI, and convenor of international and UK BIM standards. She is also convenor for the strategic direction of digital transformation within the built environment for ISO and was awarded the ICE President’s Award in 2017. Earlier this year, Anne was named Geospatial Professional of the Year at the 2019 GEO Business awards. Anne also sits on the Centre of Digital Built Britain’s advisory board and is part of its Digital Framework Task Group. The CDBB is a partnership between the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the University of Cambridge.

Professor Andy Neely, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Relations at the University of Cambridge and Director of the Centre for Digital Built Britain, said: “This is well-deserved recognition of the outstanding contribution that Anne has made to the digitalisation of the built environment.
