u-blox, a global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies and services, announced that, going forward, DOT Telematik und Systemtechnik GmbH’s ultra-robust, solar-powered X-Rayl Solar Pointer logistics tracker will feature the u-blox LARA-R211 LTE Cat 1 modem with GSM fallback and positioning capability.
DOT, an Austrian provider of robust telematics solutions for logistics, that develops intelligent, maintenance-free, and robust products and services, is a market leader in solar-powered telematics trackers.
The X-Rayl® Solar Pointer is hardly the first telematics solution to feature u-blox technology. It is, however, among the very few that never need their batteries changed. Specifically designed for container and cargo tracking, with a focus on rail transport, the telematics box was designed to withstand harsh handling, while providing a robust asset-to-cloud data link to transmit telematics and other sensor data, reporting temperature measurements, movement, and door openings in real time.
Seeking a powerful modem capable of working in the challenging environment their telematics trackers are exposed to, DOT was also interested in reducing the number of suppliers their solutions relied on.
“We were impressed with the quality and reliability of u-blox’s SAM-M8Q GNSS receiver. After evaluating the LARA-R211 LTE Cat 1 modem with 2G fallback, we decided to source our tracker’s cellular modem from u-blox as well. u-blox has proven to be a highly reliable partner, delivering high quality solutions that add value to our products,” says Philipp Tarter, CEO of DOT.
