DigitalGlobe Satellite Imagery: Protests in Caracas, Venezuela

By [email protected] - 5th February 2019 - 15:47

On Saturday, February 2nd, DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-3 satellite collected imagery of Caracas, Venezuela.

With both sides (pro-Maduro and anti-Maduro) claiming that the media misrepresented the size of their crowds, the satellite imagery provides a clear view of the entire city and concurrently shows both the large crowd of protestors that marched against President Nicolas Maduro as well as a crowd of pro-regime supporters that assembled downtown. The satellite imagery was collected at 11:05 AM, local time (Caracas).

The large crowd of anti-Maduro protestors marched and gathered along the Avenida Principal de las Mercedes and easily numbered in the thousands. The crowd of pro-Maduro, “Chavista” supporters gathered along Avenida Bolivar in central Caracas. For a quick overview graphic of the two primary protest/rally locations, please see attached.
