Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) has replaced their in-house risk modelling system with the Geographic Information System (GIS) Cadcorp SIS.
When the fire service went to market, they had a requirement for an integrated product that could seamlessly model area risk and workload allocation. DSFRS selected Cadcorp SIS Desktop with the resource planning and performance monitoring application Cadcorp Workload Modeller, and Cadcorp Risk Modeller for testing the impact of various risk factors.
The fire service is currently developing its new Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP). It will be relying on Workload Modeller to explore the likely effects of making changes to resourcing strategies, and Risk Modeller for locating, assessing, and analysing risk coverage. The project will involve updating area risk data and plotting resources on a map to calculate where they should be, and at what time.
The Strategic Analysis team at DSFRS has undertaken Cadcorp online training to become proficient in operating SIS Desktop and to gain practical expertise in using Workload Modeller and Risk Modeller. These in-house skills will allow the team to expand their analytical offering to the fire service’s executive board and operational leadership.
Ben Fake, Planning, Evaluation & Performance Manager at DSFRS commented: “One of the reasons behind investing in Cadcorp SIS was that it offers a consistent approach. Workload Modeller and Risk Modeller are specifically designed for fire services making it the best value product for assessing risk information. It’s the best fit for what we need our analysts to do.”
Geographic information is an essential strategic and operational resource for police, fire, ambulance, and other rescue services. To find out more, visit the Cadcorp website.
