SMi Reports: Senior policy maker Mr James Faist, US DoD recently confirmed to join the speaker line-up for MilSatCom USA 2019 in Arlington, VA in June.
With growing emphasis on the need to provide protected and resilient communications for terrestrial operations, the importance of space as a key enabler has never been higher. This is most recently demonstrated by the announcement of a $13 billion US Space Force.
For this reason, SMi Group are pleased to host MilSatCom USA, taking place in June 26th – 27th 2019 in Arlington, Virginia. The two-day conference is set to provide a refined focus on the US communications market and address how these critical programmes are developing.
The 2019 agenda features a series of in-depth presentations from military representatives across all branches, as well as supporting government agencies and industry.
SMi Group are delighted to announce that senior policy maker Mr James Faist, Director of Research and Engineering for Advanced Capabilities, US DoD, is joining this year's impressive expert speaker line-up.
Mr. James "Jim" A. Faist is the Director of Defense Research and Engineering for Advanced Capabilities, reporting directly to the Under Secretary of Defense Research and Engineering within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Jim directs an organization whose mission is to recognize, explore, and force the development and integration of new technology to maintain U.S. technological superiority.
He is responsible for establishing a Department of Defense joint mission engineering capability, oversight of developmental testing and test facilities as well as demonstration and validation of technology prototype and rapid fielding activities.
Jim serves as the mission area advisor for warfighter portfolios in hypersonics, space, autonomy, and networked command, control, and communication architectures. He also provides independent technical risk assessments of major acquisition programs.
Conference delegates will have the chance to hear from Jim as he delivers a keynote address on day one of the conference on “Researching, Developing and Prototyping New SATCOM Capabilities”. Topics to be covered include:
- Current DoD structure and approach to space systems: How we can more effectively exploit the assets we have
- Modernising communication systems to provide protected capability against red force electronic warfare
- Exploiting COMSATCOM more effectively – where will future Army bandwidth come from?
- Developing assets that can effectively counter anti-satellite weapons
