Publisher and map data provider Collins Bartholomew has announced the 2017 release of its popular mobile network coverage vector data product called Mobile Coverage Explorer. This release incorporates all the network coverage map submissions received from Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) over the last 12 months as part of Collins Bartholomew’s role as the official mapping partner of the GSMA.
Each year Collins Bartholomew receives hundreds of coverage map submissions from MNOs from around the world so they can provide a coverage map service on the GSMA’s website; Mobile World Live. This puts them in the enviable position of having access to mobile coverage data from an authoritative source that they can process to provide a map dataset showing aggregated 2G (GSM), 3G and 4G (LTE) coverage on a global basis.
Collins Bartholomew’s Digital Sales Manager John Allen said ‘the collection of coverage information is a fundamental part of our partnership with the GSMA so we can provide their coverage map service on Mobile World Live. However, demand for mobile coverage data that can be used for analysis is growing, particularly amongst NGOs, relief and humanitarian agencies and academic institutions. This is particularly true when it comes to our growing catalogue of historical data which can help identify network and technology changes over time’.
