After nearly half century of traditional symposia The British Cartographic Society last year revolutionised their annual event to include a wide choice of topical presentations together with a programme of interactive workshops. Building on last yearâs success the Society held its 2008 conference in Buckinghamshire at the beginning of September.
More than 100 delegates were offered four days of presentations, activities, drinks, exhibitions, a Gala Dinner and awards Ceremony in the modern Harben House conference centre of Newport Pagnell under the banner of Mapping 2008: Making the Most of Maps. The event combined presentations and interactive workshops giving an introduction to a range of current issues. After an enjoyable icebreaker session the delegates were ready for the official opening of the annual symposium next day. The morning started with a practical hands-on workshop session where tools, software and maps engaged the delegates till lunch time. The first dayâs talks were dedicated to the theme of Education in the Workplace. To download a comprehensive report which includes useful links see EDITORâS CHOICE below.
