East Hampshire District Council has beeen putting SIAâs dataMAP Mobile software to good use in its cemeteries
East Hampshire has been using SIAâs dataMAP GIS software corporately for a number of years and has recently implemented the same company's GIS Web Browser, fnding both packages flexible and easy-to-use.In one application, The Council decided to use SIAâs dataMAP Mobile to map a variety of cemetery information using handheld data capture devices. Pictured above: EHDC GPS technician Mathew Fisk records plot location Information such as age of the gravestone, its structural integrity and location could easily be captured and recorded, and then synchronised with East Hampshireâs office-based GIS. Data had to be captured for over 11,000 gravestones and proved the efficacy of dataMAP Mobile for future field data capture applications including those relating to TPOs (Tree Preservation Orders), street furniture (signs, lampposts, etc) and abandoned cars, to name but some.Peter Silvester (Geographic Information Team Manager) says, âdataMAP Mobile is proving extremely valuable, it provides us with the means to capture field data accurately and quickly, with as little desk work as possible. It replaces antiquated paper based records with a user-friendly system that can easily be web enabled. Customers will be able to access our data via the web, cutting out day-to-day enquiries made to the cemeteries service, freeing up valuable staff resourcesâ.
